Your tax code tells your employer how much income tax to deduct. It's on your payslip, P60, or P45 — or you can check it via your Personal Tax Account at gov.uk.
Most people have a number followed by "L" (e.g. 1257L). The number × 10 + 9 = your personal allowance. The "L" means you get the standard allowance.
Special codes: BR = 20% flat, D0 = 40% flat, D1 = 45% flat, NT = no tax, K codes = extra taxable amount. An S prefix means Scottish rates apply.
